Dear Saints,
I once read on the shirt of a classmate, "College is an experiment in sleep deprivation." I am not sure whose experiment it is, but we often miss much needed physical rest due to the challenges of college (or maybe our own time management). But what about spiritual rest? Do you have rest for your soul? I've enjoyed reading Hebrews these last two weeks which focuses on both Jesus' humanity and His supremacy as God, and compares and contrasts Jesus' role as High Priests to the High Priests of the Old Testament.
Therefore [Jesus] is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.—Hebrews 7:25 NASB.
This verse is in contrast to the act of making atonement for sins day after day and year after year. Are you striving to erase the guilt and shame of your sins? You can rest by trusting in Jesus, because He, as God in a sinless flesh, has already paid the death penalty for your sins on the cross. Just as Satan is ready to declare you, "Guilty," Jesus is forever acting as your intercessor, declaring you innocent, because of what HE did. He fully satisfied God's justice for your sins on the cross, and then He finally destroyed sin and death's grip on your soul when He rose again from the dead. If you have trusted in this work that Jesus has already DONE, let your soul rest in this truth rather than striving to gain God's forgiveness.
